Gitoru family and sons

House of Gitoru is where we hail from, in Gatundu North.  The patriarchs claim to have come from the Munjiru clan of the Agikuyu. Genealogy claims they descended from Thiga, Gitoru and Ngugi. Ngugi was a brother to Ikenye. If truth be told about their success, its a rags to riches story. Gitoru as a young man killed a colonial home guard and was excommunicated. They went to live in Naivasha. Later on his son Ngugi started by hawking second hand  clothes and when things went on well  bought a bus by the name Gakoe one. He would later move to Kigumba, Uganda where he had a wholesale by the name Umoja General Stores and a 300 acre farm.  After idi Amin ascended to power through a coupe they lost most of their property and came back to Kenya and settled in Kimilili, the slopes of Mount Elgon in Western province.
Time went by and most of the members went back to live in Gakoe, Gatundu North, Central Kenya their home town. But Richard Ngugi Mwangi my father and the second last born remained in Kimilili.  An alumnus of Mang’u High School and a Math teacher he quit a lucrative government job as deputy head teacher and started a kiosk by the name Riziki Kiosk with only Kshs.3000. That was early 1990. The business picked up and he bought 5 matatus under the name adviser. The business took a different direction and he built Mombasa Discount Store , a wholesale. By then everything was s o good that he stopped his transport business.
In 1999 he built what was to become the first supermarket in Kimilili. Most of time was dedicated to expansion and he acquired farms in Kitale, voi, Kimilili, Thika and Gatundu. In less than 5 years he had diversified his business and dealt with construction, retail, real estate and agriculture. In 2010 he opened the biggest hypermarket in Kimilili district under the name Riziki Kimilili General Merchants. The story had turned from sour painful and excruciating shame but now a success and the MAN is worth a whopping Kshs. 300 million. And now plans to build a five star hotel near his premises.
With the current inflation at 14.5 %, the guy will be a billionaire in the next 3 years; a dream he has patiently waited for almost a lifetime.

Riziki Kimilili General Merchants

In the early 1990, somewhere in Kimilili a young man by the name Richard Ngugi Mwangi started a company with a paltry kshs. 3000. It grew with time and became a wholesale. With excruciating hardwork and waking up at odd hours he was able to build an empire that spans from retail, agriculture, construction, bakery and real estate. little is known about this noble guy but is an alumni of Mang'u High School and an accomplished mathematician. He has properties all over the country and estimated to be worth kshs. 300 million. Most notable of the investments is a 50000 square feet hypermarket he has built in kimilili. As part of the Gitoru family he has been more than helpful and i wish him Godspeed.
